Transparent Structural Ceramics

The transparent structural ceramic is a kind of fully dense polycrystalline material fabricated through unique material design and processing. It is an advanced material with integrated structural/ functional properties, which can not only approach to the theoretical optical transmittance in a specific spectral range but also withstand high mechanical and thermal loads.

Compared with tempered glasses, the mechanical properties of the transparent structural ceramic, such as Young's modulus, shear modulus, hardness, fracture toughness, and fracture strength, are more than 3 to 5 times higher. The optical transmittance of the transparent structural ceramic covers from near ultraviolet to middle infrared region, while resistances of thermal shock, sand erosion, and weather significantly surpass those of glasses.
